A)
Strategy
is making like science because just like in science strategies are now being
driven by the extensive analysis, experiments, market research and numbers . The more the experiments
conducted the more confident an organization is in its strategic management.
It’s
like an art or craft because it helps in formulating, implementing and
evaluating cross functional decisions that enables an organization to achieve its
future goal .
B)
Intended
strategy is deliberate, planned, analytical and structured . It is the set of
planned acts to achieve a certain goal . For example, Microsoft is the best
example of intended strategy because its intended actions are planned analyzed
before taking any strategic decisions.
Whereas
emergent strategy as the name suggests occur without any long term planning. It is unstructured and informal approach of
any organization which occurs from day to day decisions made to run the company
. Walmart and Google are some examples of organizations that apply emergent strategy
C)
The
two school of strategy are
i)
Entrepreneurial School
ii)
Planning School
Entrepreneurial
school emphasizes on the central role played by the leader who foresees
formation of strategy as a visionary process. The entrepreneurial school
focuses on experience , wisdom , judgement and intuition . A good example of
entrepreneurial school is CEO of a company like Steve Jobs.
Planning
school proclaims the merits of formal strategic planning with rigorous set of
steps that are taken from the analysis situation to the execution of the
strategy. It gives a clear direction and control. For example: insurance
company and banks .
D)
The
case study we had today was about the multinational corporation Google. It was
quite exciting and interesting as there were different opinions and views shared
by the group members about the strategy of Google. My answer to the question
was that Google implemented both deliberate and emergent strategy. One approach
of emergent strategy by them is their investment in self driving cars and
energy projects as it is not even related to their field .
